Houston Dash vs. Portland Thorns FC

The Houston Dash play the first match in franchise history against Portland Thorns FC on Saturday, April 12th at 7 p.m.  Seating for the match has been expanded, tickets are available at the stadium box office which will open at from 12 p.m.

The game will feature a pregame proclamation from Mayor Annise Parker and will be broadcast live at www.HoustonDashSoccer.com/live, and  shown via tape delay on CSN Houston on Sunday, April 13, at 8 p.m. CT.

The Dash are led by head coach Randy Waldrum, an Irving, Texas, native who was at the helm of the Notre Dame women’s soccer program for the past 15 years, winning two NCAA Division I championships during his time. On the field, the Dash are captained by Canadian international goalkeeper Erin McLeod. McLeod has earned 91 caps in goal for the Canadian national team including three FIFA Women’s World Cups, and was named to the Canadian Women’s National Team All-Time Best XI in 2012.

The Dash roster also features first round expansion draft pick Brittany Bock, who played under Waldrum at Notre Dame, and firstround college draft selection Kealia Ohai. Ohai led the team with five goals and four assists in six preseason matches this spring. Midfielder Becky Edwards and defender Nikki Washington will be facing their former team on Saturday, as both were picked up in the off-season by the Dash from Portland.

The Thorns won the inaugural NWSL Championship in 2013, defeating the Western New York Flash 2-0 on August 31 in the title game. Head coach Paul Riley is entering his first year in charge of the club after Cindy Parlow Cone resigned her post in the off-season.
