BBVA Compass Stadium & Houston Dash Celebrates Earth Day Houston with Recycling Event

Apr 9, 2014

BBVA Compass Stadium and the Houston Dash will join the City of Houston and a variety of local organizations for Earth Day Houston this Saturday, April 12th for a day-long celebration that focuses on the merits of mindful, sustainable living while educating and encouraging Houstonians to do their part to preserve, conserve and enhance our city and the Earth.

As part of the Houston Dash Inaugural Match pre-game festivities fans are encouraged to bring recycling to BBVA Compass Stadium.  Recycling will be collected outside The Methodist Gate, located at the northwest corner of the building.  The first 50 fans who participate in the recycling event will receive a FREE 22 oz. fountain drink.

Fans have the opportunity to recycle paper, plastic and aluminum products at every event as BBVA Compass Stadium has numerous recycling bins located throughout the concourse as well as in the tailgating and fan fest areas.

BBVA Compass Stadium, along with the Houston Dynamo and Houston Dash, have partnered on a variety of green initiatives for the 2014 season including Earth Hour, Earth Day, America Recycles Day, Bike to the Game and the launch of METRO Light Rail later this year.

Houston Dash Team Information

The Houston Dash will take on the Portland Thorns in their inaugural match at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday, April 12 at 7 p.m.  The Dash are led by head coach Randy Waldrum, who joined the organization in January after spending 15 years as head coach of the Notre Dame women’s soccer program. Waldrum compiled a 292-58-17 record and won two national championships at the helm of the Fighting Irish. Waldrum is supported by assistant coach Lee Cullip and goalkeepers coach Steve Branz.

The Dash roster has been constructed through national team allocations, the 2014 NWSL Expansion Draft and the NWSL College Draft. Expansion draft picks Brittany Bock and Becky Edwards figure to be in central midfield for Waldrum’s team. Forward Kealia Ohai, second overall pick in the college draft, led the team with five goals and five assists during a six-game preseason. U.S. Women National Team defenders Whitney Engen and Meghan Klingenberg are currently with Swedish side Tyresö FF, and will join the Dash at the conclusion of Tyresö’s UEFA Women’s Champions League run.
